Cultivating new musical theatre from the first note to opening night— with precision, warmth, and a conductor's ear for story.
About
Patrick B. Phillips (he/him) is a New York City–based music director, conductor, arranger, orchestrator, and writer whose work spans Broadway, Off-Broadway, national tours, new musical development, regional theatre, and film and television. He is particularly passionate about developing new musical theatre and exploring the ways music and storytelling can engage with race, sexuality, identity, and the intersections between them.
His Broadway credits include The Wiz, & Juliet, Suffs, Back to the Future, Sweeney Todd, and Jagged Little Pill. In 2024, Patrick served as a substitute conductor on the Broadway revival of The Wiz, becoming the youngest Black conductor on record to lead a Broadway orchestra. He subsequently continued with The Wiz as Associate Music Director/Associate Conductor on its national tour.
Patrick's work beyond Broadway includes Little Miss Perfect, 42 Balloons, and The Devil Wears Prada, as well as countless readings, workshops, and developmental productions of new musicals around the world. His work for film and television includes K-Pop Demon Hunters, Only Murders in the Building, and Disney's live-action Snow White.
As a music director, conductor, arranger, orchestrator, pianist, and copyist, Patrick has collaborated with some of the theatre industry's leading directors, composers, music supervisors, and music directors, including Alex Lacamoire, Zhailon Levingston, Joseph Joubert, Tom Kitt, Joriah Kwamé, Shaina Taub, Ian Eisendrath, Andrea Grody, Bryan Perri, and Nadia DiGiallonardo.
Patrick was a member of the inaugural classes of both MUSE and tutti, where he was mentored by Alvin Hough Jr., Joseph Joubert, and Ian Eisendrath. He is a graduate of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Music with concentrations in choral music, musical theatre, and piano.
A proud son of immigrants from the Philippines and Barbados, Patrick is deeply interested in the ways culture, identity, and community inform both the creation of new work and the stories we choose to tell. Outside the theatre, he enjoys studying languages, cooking, and traveling.
